With six letterwinners, two of whom were All-Gopher Conference First Team selections, returning, the WEM volleyball team is ready to contend for a Gopher Conference Championship this fall.

The Buccaneers are looking to improve on their 2024 season in which they finished 7-3 in the conference (3rd overall) and 18-13 overall.

Seniors Liza Baker, Addison Condon, Alenka Jans, and Robynn Schwichtenberg along with juniors Bryella Pope and Alix Velzke return to the varsity.

Gone from last year’s team are Ashlyn Pelant, who is playing at Rochester Technical College, Tatum Richards (Honorable Mention All-Gopher), McKenna Schuster, and Tianna Pope.

Baker and Condon were both named First Team All Conference and will go down as two of the best players at WEM.

Baker recorded 513 digs last year (2nd most in school history), 245 kills, and 40 ace serves. Her career digs and set assist totals are among the top 15 all-time at WEM.

Condon put together one of the best seasons ever at WEM in 2024. She was named to the Class AA All-State Team, recorded 539 digs (school record), 472 kills (2nd all-time), and with 104 kills she will become only the fourth player in school history to have 1,000 or more kills and digs in her career.

Schwichtenberg will be the team’s setter this year, replacing Pelant who finished her career with 1,533 set assists. Head coach Crystal Lamont said Schwichtenberg has good ball control and she expects her to help the offense...
