Legion season ends with 3 losses

New Prague's American Legion Post 45 baseball team completed its season last week, winning two of five games. The team ended up seeded 23rd of 36 teams in the Third District, with only the top 20 teams advancing to the playoffs, which began Monday, July 19.
New Prague won both ends of a doubleheader at Hastings Tuesday, July 13, but then lost two to Eastview the next day. They concluded their season Thursday, July 15, losing to Farmington. Coach Rick Bell said if the team could have beaten Farmington, they likely would have made the playoffs.
Post 45 5, Hastings 2
In a five-inning game, Austin Bachman allowed just five hits and struck out four as New Prague claimed a 5-2 win.
New Prague scored a run in the first when Scott Allar and Ben Trewartha led off with walks. With two outs, Luke Busch got an RBI single.
New Prague scored four in the fifth. Allar and Trewartha hit one-out singles and Allar scored on an error. Bachman doubled to bring in a run, then with two outs, Busch got his second RBI hit of the night. Nolan Hodapp followed with a base hit to bring in Busch.
Hastings scored two runs in the fifth, but their comeback fell short.
New Prague had eight hits, with Bachman and Busch getting two each and Allar, Trewartha, Hodapp and Sean Ingebretson getting the others.
Post 45 1, Hastings 0
Chase Buthe pitched a four-hit shutout, striking out four to pick up the win in the nightcap.
Buthe not only got the win, but drove in the game's only run in the second inning. Cody Sampson led off with a hit, was sacrificed to second by Busch and scored on a base hit by Buthe.
New Prague had just three hits, by Dan Ring, Sampson and Buthe.
Eastview 11, Post 45 0
Eastview shut out New Prague in a five-inning game, winning 11-0.
New Prague used four different pitchers, but no one could stop the Eastview attack. Scott Allar started and took the loss, with Tyler Busch, Sampson and Trewartha pitching in relief.
New Prague had five hits, but couldn't put together a rally. Trewartha had two hits, while Sampson, Tyler Busch and Cody Dyvig had one each.
Eastview 18, Post 45 3
In the second game Eastview picked up where they left off, scoring eight runs in the first inning and taking an 18-3 win over New Prague.
Post 45 again used four pitchers. Ingebretson started and took the loss, with Trewartha, Allar and Sampson pitching in relief.
New Prague got their three runs in the fifth, with Tyler Busch getting a leadoff single and scoring on a double by Hodapp. After a walk by Ingebretson, Bachman grounded to third to score a run and Buthe drove in a run when he reached on an error.
New Prague had just three hits, by Curt Brezina, Tyler Busch and Hodapp.
Farmington 14,
New Prague 11
New Prague led 11-4, but allowed two five-run innings as Farmington came back for a 14-11 win.
Post 45 scored four runs in the first. Allar doubled and Trewartha singled and Dan Ring doubled to bring in a run. Bachman hit a sacrifice fly to left, then with two outs, Hodapp blasted a two-run homer.
New Prague led added a run in the third when Ring doubled and scored on Brezina's grounder to second.
New Prague scored six runs in the fourth to take an 11-4 lead. Luke Busch and Ingebretson both walked, then Allar reached on an error. Trewartha singled to drive in a run, then Ring did the same. Bachman hit into a fielder's choice to score a run, then Brezina drove in two runs with a single. Hodapp drove in the final run with a base hit.
But New Prague couldn't hold on. They gave up five runs in their half of the fourth and five more in the sixth.
Brezina started and went three innings, allowing seven hits and striking out three. Tyler Beuning pitched 2-1/3 innings and got the loss, with Ring pitching the final two-thirds of an inning.
New Prague had 10 hits, with Ring getting three and Hodapp two. Other hits were by Allar, Trewartha, Bachman, Brezina and Buthe.
