Vintage Escapes opens in Kilkenny

At the top of a gentle hill overlooking Hunt Lake, nestled along historically rich Dodd Road in rural Kilkenny, Dan and Ashley Reller decided to plant their dreams of owning their own vineyard and winery.

This weekend, after four years of hard work, the Rellers will share the fruits of their labor during a grand opening of their business, Vintage Escapes Winery and Vineyard, at 8950 Dodd Road. The tasting room will be open from noon until 9 p.m. on May 25.

“We’re excited to have people come and enjoy the tasting room and our wine,” stated Ashley. “The name, Vintage Escapes, reflects our love of antiques and history-- and wine--and our desire to create a place people can truly escape, relax, and enjoy a glass of wine or two.”

The Rellers made the decision to open their own winery after the birth of their son, River, in 2014.

“We enjoyed wine and visiting wineries, walking the vineyards together, and often talked about starting our own winery, but it wasn’t until River was born that we decided to really make it happen,” explained Ashley.

“Our mindsets changed,” explained Dan, a former Marine, who served in Iraq and Afghanistan before beginning a job at Federated Insurance in Owatonna. “You tell your kids they can do anything if they want to and are willing to put in the hard work. I believe that, and now we get to show our son that by living it.”

“We decided we’d rather try and fail then never try at all,” Ashley stated.
