Baseball team falls to Belle Plaine

The Tri-City United Titans suffered a shutout loss to Belle Plaine on Thursday, May 31 in the Section 2AA Tournament. 

 

According to Coach Bruce Davis, his team started out trailing and couldn’t catch up.

 

“We watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 10-0 loss,” he said. 

 

Belle Plaine started out the scoring on a double by Andrew Hunsader and a single by Garrett Boblitt in the first inning.

 

“We struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Belle Plaine, giving up ten runs,” Davis commented.

 

In the first inning, Belle Plaine got their offense started. Belle Plaine scored one run when Hunsader doubled.

 

One bright spot for Titans was a single by Devin Vosejpka in the third inning and a single by Brad Davis in the fourth inning.

 

Belle Plaine pitcher Robert Hogan earned the victory on the hill. He lasted five innings, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out five and walking one.

Marty Kalina took the loss for Titans. He allowed three hits and five runs over three innings, striking out one.

 

Belle Plaine launched two home runs on the day. Jake Mercado had a long ball in the fourth inning and Hogan put one out in the third inning.

Vosejpka and Brad Davis all had one hit to lead Titans.

 

Belle Plaine totaled eight hits in the game. Hunsader and Hogan all had multiple hits for Belle Plaine. 

 

“Belle Plaine was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Jackson Stauffacher had the most chances in the field with five,” Davis stated.

 

TCU continues in the tournament and will play at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday in Waterville. The Titans will play the winner of Waterville and Blue Earth.
