Current and former Montgomery firefighters and emergency service medical personnel were honored and recognized Saturday, Jan 19 at their annual fire and rescue awards banquet in Montgomery.

"Thank you for everything you have done and everything you still do to this day for the community," said Montgomery Fire Chief Ken Pavek of those who have retired and whose presence is still felt daily by current firefighters on the department. "I am honored to walk in your footsteps."

Montgomery Mayor Tom Eisert added a few words, asking that those who have served stand and be recognized for their values and dedication to serving the community.

"Your values and traditions have served you well," said Eisert of both current and retired fire and rescue personnel. "These are your Hometown Heroes."

This year, Pavek said, the Montgomery Fire Department responded to 62 calls that ranged in length of time from 15 minutes to 15 hours. As well, over 1000 hours of call-time were logged, and countless more time was spent training and volunteering in other ways including parades, community events and fundraising efforts.
