Girls are 1-1 at holiday tournament

The TCU girls basketball team earned a big win over Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton and a loss to Waterville-Elysian-Morristown at the TCU Holiday Basketball Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
TCU 64 - JWP 38
The girls participated in two games of the holiday tournament. On Friday, they worked for a resounding win over JWP, ending with 64-38 score.
The Titans took early control of the game, building up a 21-point lead in the first ten minutes of the game. At half-time, they expanded it to 40-9.
Coach Eric Specht said the team started the game with a lot of energy.
“I thought we really did a nice job in our transition offense, creating some easy baskets,” he stated. “I’m excited for the kids.”
Three of the Titans sank double digit points for the team, with Jess Dull leading with 14. Grace Factor followed with 12 and Izzy Factor chipped in 10. Other points came from Erica Jackson 7, Kaitlyn Lang 7, Sam Lang 5, Kaia Krocak 5, Marissa Gare 3, and Paige Johnson 1.

TCU 44 - WEM 56
Unfortunately, the momentum was not carried over to the girls’ next game on Saturday against WEM.
Grace Factor and Dull each led with double digit points at 11 and 10 respectively. Jackson added 6, while Krocak, Lang, and Gare all added 4. Izzy Factor added 3, and Johnson added 2.

TCU 51 - Maple River 59
The girls fell to Maple River before the Christmas break with a final score of 51-59.
Coach Specht said his team played with a lot of fight after getting down early, going into the half trailing 24-34.
“After the half, we were able to pull the game within four points a couple of times,” he stated. “I give Maple River credit as they always came up with a key basket to slow our momentum. Jackson provided an offensive spark for our team, finishing with five 3-point baskets. It was nice to see some of our girls playing with some urgency.”
The coach admitted that his girls did not defend Maple River’s inside game very well, and as a whole, it needs to become more consistent on both ends of the floor.
“We need to get all five girls on the same page,” he said.
Jackson led the team with 17 points. Lang added 9 points and 11 rebounds. Dull chipped in 9 points.

TCU 60 - Le Sueur-Henderson 55
After a one-point loss against Fairmont on December 19, the Tri-City United Titans rebounded with a 15-point win over the Le Sueur-Henderson Giants on December 20.
Specht said going into the contest, he was unsure how the team was going to perform after the close loss the night before.
“After a slow start, I felt our girls did a nice job of looking inside for Dull and Grace Factor, which was an advantage for us,” he stated. “Our team also did much better at the free throw line tonight (compared to last night) finishing 8 for 10 in the second in the second half.”
The Titans entered the contest with a 1-5 record with the Giants behind them with 0-6. Still, Specht, said his team needs to continue to improve on valuing the basketball.
“We made too many unforced errors again,” he stated. “This is something we have control over and our girls need to take more ownership in these mistakes.”
Dull finished with a double-double 19 points and 11 rebounds. Jackson and Grace Factor both added 14 points.
