Sirek and Rotter chosen Torchlight Parade junior grand marshals
A person wouldn’t know it was a winter holiday festival the day the two junior grand marshals stopped by the Messenger to have their picture taken, as it was a balmy 60 degrees out Sunday when they did.
Hendrix Rotter, son of Jeff and Eve Rotter, and Brenlynn Sirek, daughter of Jon and Missy Sirek, all of Montgomery, were chosen as the 2023 Torchlight Parade and Fireworks junior grand marshals.
Hendrix Rotter said, “We’re going to be king and queen!” He said he was nervous about being on the float in front of the whole city, but he says he will turn down his father’s offer of using some hand warmers so they don’t get cold when he waves to everyone. “My hands can survive the cold,” said Rotter.
The most exciting part about being a junior grand marshal for Brenlynn Sirek she says is, “Being in front of the parade.” Both second-graders and their parents were excited for the opportunity.
To be selected as a junior grand marshal, they must be a student at Most Holy Redeemer School or Tri-City United Elementary School and in second grade. Permission slips are sent home and one boy and one girl are chosen at random.
Duties of the junior grand marshals include riding on the Torchlight Parade lead unit with the button designer winner, riding on a float in the Kolacky Days parade, being interviewed and having their photos taken and published on various media.
