Soccer teams shutout in recent games

The boys and girls soccer teams - at varsity and junior varsity levels - were shut out in last week’s games against Mankato Loyola.

On Tuesday, Oct. 6, the boys were on the road, and the girls hosted the Crusaders. The JV boys lost 4-0, and the boys varsity lost 12-0. In Montgomery, the JV girls lost 6-0, and the varsity girls were shutout by the score 8-0.

Coach Carey Langer said his teams are banged up and playing more experienced teams.

“We are nursing a lot of injuries; playing teams that are far more technically advanced, experienced, bigger, faster, and are simply at a different level than we are,” he stated. “The one exception I would say to this is the varsity boys. Their loss was not because of being out-matched ... their loss was because they just were not ready to play that day. If we played that game again, I guarantee you that we would be far more competitive than that. We have played better teams and not been beaten like that. We just didn’t show up mentally and it snowballed very quickly.”

Langer said the future contests in sectional playoffs will be difficult for the teams.
