TCU reports positive cases of COVID-19

TCU schools informed parents and guardians on Monday of three lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) in members of the TCU School communities.

According to Superintendent Lonnie Seifert, the three confirmed cases were reported over the past five days.

“We were only made aware of the three cases since late yesterday (Sunday) and this morning (Monday). The cases go back to individuals in the building last Wednesday up until this weekend, but as I indicated we were only informed of them late yesterday and this morning,” he stated. “The close contacts in these cases are spread out in all of the communities.”

He said there is one classroom impacted and one activity impacted by the positive cases. He noted that the district is working with the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) on contact tracing and that families will be notified if their child has been identified as a close contact.

Seifert noted that the risk of exposure at school is the same as being in public.

“We have been reassured by MDH that the risk of exposure for other individuals present at school is no greater than the risk of contracting the virus in the general community,” he stated in a notification to parents and guardians.

Seifert said students who were not identified to have close contact with a positive case of COVID-19 will not be notified of every positive case. He advised that families...
