Over the course of two days due to rain, the Tri-City United Titan Baseball Team defeated Maple River to advance in the Section 2AA Tournament on Wednesday, May 30.

TCU 5 0...0...2...0...1...1...1

Maple River 4 0...1...0...0...0...1...2

Maple River got off to a start in the 2nd inning on a sacrifice fly.

According to Coach Bruce Davis, the Titans were on the heels of the Eagles, answering each run with one of their own.

“Good teams answer when the other team scores. Each time MR scored the Titans came right back with runs of their own,” said Davis.

TCU came back in the third inning when Devin Vosejpka singled to centerfield. Zach Sexe was hit by a pitch, and Marty Kalina hit into a fielder’s choice forcing out Sexe at second. Kalina then stole second base and Brad Davis singled in both Kalina and Vosejpka to give TCU a 2-1 lead.

The Titans scored again in the fifth inning when Matthew Feddema walked. Sexe hit into a fielder’s choice, then stole second base and scored on a Kalina double, making the score 3-1.

Maple River and TCU both picked up another run in the sixth inning. TCU’s game advanced when Jack Skluzacek walked, followed by a Tyler Milford single. Zach Mikel then singled to load the bases when Kayden Factor hit a sacrifice fly to score Skluzacek and make the score 4-2 going into the seventh.

Maple River scored two unearned runs in the 7th to tie the score at 4-4 before TCU started off with a walk from Sexe, who then stole second base.

Kalina bunted and Maple River threw to third and got Sexe out in a rundown. Kalina took advantage of the rundown and stole second base.

Brad Davis then stepped up and singled to right field to score Kalina and give the Titans the walk-off win!

“This is a great win for the Titans!” Coach Davis said.

Kalina had a huge RBI double for the Titans and Kayden Factor picked up an important sacrifice fly RBI for TCU.

Brad Davis started on the mound for TCU pitching three innings, giving up one run on three hits while striking out two. Tyler Milford picked up the win throwing four innings giving up three runs, no earned runs on four hits and four strike outs.

Sexe and Kalina were on base a total of six times between them and Davis delivered with three RBIs in the game right behind them.

The Titans’ next game is tonight, May 31 at Belle Plaine at 5 p.m.
