Titans earn wins on the mat

The Tri-City United Wrestling Team scored two easy wins when they met two Minnesota River Conference teams last week in Norwood Young America (NYA).

Class after class, the TCU team dominated on the mat. The first was against home team NYA who put up a fight, but were eventually defeated by the Titans, who won the match 58-15.

NYA won only three of the rounds: Joash Lord (138 pounds) won a decision over Hunter Rutt, Sam Meeker (195) won by a forfeit and Sean Franck (285) pinned Robert Bastyr.

However, the Titans earned their points from six pins, one major decision, two decisions and two forfeits.

Le Sueur-Henderson was the other team at the triangular. As in the first round of competition, the Titans quickly took down Giants. Out of the 14 weight classes, the Giants competed in only eight of them.

When it was all said and done, the Giants only gained nine points to the Titans’ 57. The Giants’ only points came in two matches - a decision and a pin. The decision came from Tommy Gupton (138) over Hunter Rutt and the pin came from Jacob Wacker (285) over Robert Bastyr.

Compared to the Titans who earned their winning points from five pins, one decision and four forfeits.

The Titans also competed in the East Ridge Ruckus on Friday and Saturday. The Ruckus was made up of 18 different high schools, with TCU wrestlers facing off against up to five opponents over the weekend.

Out of the 18 schools, TCU came in seventh place with 112.5 points. St. Michael-Albertville won the Ruckus with 235.5 points.
