A press release from the Rice County Sheriff's Office said the name of the victim, a 44-year-old male, would be released on Monday, Jan. 14, after next of kin and family are notified. The release said there are no signs of foul play, and that an investigation is ongoing.

The Rice County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of a deceased male in a cornfield near the intersection of Halstad Avenue and County Road 86 in northern Rice County Sunday morning, Jan. 13.

Rice County Deputy Derek Estrem said he and Deputy Aaron Snyder reported to a call that came in to the department at 9:32 a.m.

Upon arrival, they found a white pick-up truck parked on the side of the road heading eastbound on County Road 86.

Estrem confirmed that a deceased adult male was found a short distance from the vehicle in the cornfield, but would not comment further barring the investigation. However, he did say there is no public threat at this time.

“There is no danger to the community,” Estrem said.

The Elko New Market Police Department, Scott County Sheriff’s Department, the MN State Patrol and North Memorial assisted at the scene.

More information will be released by the Rice County Sheriff’s Department on Sunday.
