Adapted floor hockey team tops Jets 8-0 in opener

The New Prague Adapted Floor Hockey team won its season opener Tuesday, Jan. 15, claiming an 8-0 win over the South Suburban Jets in Bloomington.

New Prague took a 4-0 lead in the first period, with Seth Dorner getting three goals and Garret Gagner one.

Gagner, Evan Minar and Chase Smith each scored in the second and Blake Perry tallied a goal in the third to make it an 8-0 final.

Breanna Stark was solid in the net, stopping all 21 shots she faced.

Dorner added two assists and Gagner one.

“For our first game we felt pretty good about where we were at,” said Coach Shellie Kriha. “South Suburban plays a fast-paced game and we were able to stay with them every step of the way.”

Kriha said the team’s younger players contributed with goals, but the team defense was the highlight.

“Blake Perry, Seth Dorner, and Evan Minar all played significant time on defense and kept the Jets in check all night. And Breanna started off strong in the net.

The team will travel to Lakeville McGuire Middle School on Thursday, Jan 24, to face Burnsville/Farmington/Lakeville. They will host South Washington County on Thursday, Jan. 31.
