First weekend of state tourney a hit
The first weekend of play at the 2018 Minnesota Amateur Baseball Tournament was a big hit. More than 2,200 people paid to see eight games over three days at New Prague's Memorial Park Baseball Stadium, including 640 for Friday’s tourney opener, a 7-2 New Prague win over Ortonville. Games were also played in Shakopee and Jordan. Members of the 1973 New Prague High School team were honored before the noon game on Saturday. As a group, the undefeated Minnesota River Conference champions donated $10,000 toward stadium renovation, including the new Czech Deck seating area down the third base line. Jim Lang, an assistant coach for the team, threw out the first pitch while members of the team watched. Receiving the first pitch was Derrick Isaacson, nephew of the late Glenn Busch, a member of the team who helped organize the donation efforts. Isaacson plays for St. Patrick, which won its first round game Saturday.
