Richard L. Deutsch, 86

Richard L. Deutsch, age 86, of New Prague, died peacefully, in the presence of his loving family on Monday, August 27, 2018 at his home.  Richard was born on May 17, 1932 in Helena Township, Scott County to John and Marie “Mary” (Wampach) Deutsch.  He attended St. Benedict Parochial School and graduated from New Prague High School.  He was drafted into the US Army and served in the Korean War and was one of six who typed up the armistice agreement for the end of the war.  Richard married Phyllis M. Glisczinski on October 13, 1962 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lexington, MN and the couple made their home on a hobby farm in rural New Prague, where they raised their six children. Richard started out working at the Co-op in New Prague before his life work in sales for A.O. Smith Harvestore, a position he held until retirement.  After retirement, he worked for the Auto Auction in Shakopee, a position he loved and held into his 80’s.  Richard was a man of deep faith and had a great trust in God and his Catholic faith; he served as an usher and greeter at St. Wenceslaus Church for many years.  He was also a member of the American Legion.  Richard loved anything that took him outdoors, particularly his garden, walks in the woods, and cutting wood and he was never happier than when these activities were accompanied by his grandchildren.  He loved playing cards and was an avid sports fan and enjoyed following the Vikings, Twins, and Gophers. He was at his happiest when his family was gathered around him for any of these activities.

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis of New Prague; children, Todd (Jean) Deutsch of Montgomery, Father Timothy Deutsch of San Diego, CA, Tammy Osborne of Shakopee, Terry (Andrea) Deutsch of New Prague, Kimberly (Joe) Cram of New Prague, Kara (Chris) Shimota of Montgomery; sister, Angeline Hesse of Chaska; brother, Victor (Mary) Deutsch of Waterloo, IA; 22 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Kathleen Bessel & Theresa May.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, August 31, 2018 at 10 AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with his son, Father Timothy Deutsch officiating.  Visitation will take place Thursday from 4-7 PM and on Friday morning from 7:30 – 9:30 AM at Bruzek Funeral Home.  Burial will occur at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted, followed by lunch at the KC Hall. bruzekfuneralhome.com
