Union Hill scores 33 runs in seven innings

Fourteen players scored, thirteen players had hits, and thirteen players knocked in runs for the Union Hill amateur baseball team Thursday, June 16 in a 33-3, seven inning win over Veseli.

The Bulldogs accumulated 27 hits with Sam Novak and Nathan Osborne each collecting four and Nate Lee and Jacob Becker collecting three each. Lee, Osborne, Becker, and Nathan Berg each hit home runs.

Conrad Masberg picked up the win on the mound, allowing one earned run on three hits in five innings. Novak pitched the final two innings and did not allow an earned run.

Eddie Sirek, Nate Picka, Joe Maxa, and Beau Brantner had the hits for Veseli.

The DRS League had games scheduled every day last week.

On Wednesday, June 15, Elko defeated Faribault, 6-3, St. Benedict defeated Prior Lake, 8-4, St. Patrick defeated Lonsdale, 19-0 in 7 innings, and New Prague edged Veseli, 4-1.

In the St. Patrick win, Zak Endres allowed two hits and struck out eight in pitching the complete game. Kal Brohmer was 4-for-6 with a 3-run homer and six RBI. Jack Friedges added a 3-run homer and three RBI.

Marty Kalina and Devin Vosejpka had the hits for the Aces.

In the Orioles win over Veseli was a pitchers duel for most of the game. TJ Bergland pitched six strong innings striking out five and giving up one earned run. Jayce Luna pitched three scoreless innings in relief picking up the save. Veseli took an early lead in the 4th inning when Eddie Sirek led off with a double off the right field wall and would later score on a Michael Nezerka sacrifice fly. The Orioles answered back with three runs in the 4th with three straight hits from Dan Ring, Jacob Mader and Eric Wagner. James Fuerniss, Wagner and Ring all had multiple hits. Nate Picka pitched 8 innings for Veseli striking out seven.

On Friday, June 17, New Prague defeated Shakopee, 11-1 in seven innings. Bennett Isely, James Fuerniss, Jacob Deutsch and Aidan Dorzinski all had two hits a piece. Ben Buthe and Cam Prochaska each added RBI doubles. Wes Kemming pitched five innings striking out 10 and Nathan Sprouls pitched two in relief, striking out three. Alec Pauly had a hit for the Coyotes and later scored on a Cole Leighton ground out to 2nd.

On Saturday, June 18, Montgomery edged Hamburg, 11-10 and St. Benedict downed Webster, 9-4.

On Sunday, June 20, New Prague defeated Union Hill, 6-1, St. Patrick defeated Webster, 11-1 in seven innings, and Prior Lake defeated Shakopee, 10-1.

James Fuerniss led the Orioles to victory over the Bulldogs with his arm and his bat. He pitched seven innings to get the victory and TJ Bergland pitched two innings in relief. Fuerniss pitched out of trouble a few times but only gave up one run that was also unearned. Joe Becker, Nate Lee, and Jacob Becker all had two hits for the Bulldogs. Dan Ring had two hits and two RBIs to lead the Orioles. Jacob Deutsch scored twice after being walked. Joe Becker took the loss for the Bulldogs.

Zach Seurer allowed one run on five hits, did not walk a batter, and struck out 10 in pitching a complete game for the Irish. Seth Ambroz drilled a pair of home runs and knocked in three. Jack Friedges and Ryan Friedges each added two hits and a run scored. Peter Tveite took the loss for Webster, pitching four innings and striking out five.

St. Patrick and New Prague are the top two teams in the league. The Irish have won seven straight and are 8-2. The Orioles have won five straight and are 7-4. Third threw ninth place is a log jam. Montgomery is in third with an 8-5 record. They are followed by Union Hill (6-5),Webster (6-6), St. Benedict (6-6), Faribault (5- 5), Lonsdale (5-8), and Prior Lake (4-9). Veseli (2-8) and Shakopee (1-11) are on the bottom of the standings.
