Week 2 of state tournament starts Friday

New Prague, New London- Spicer, St. Patrick, Fort Ripley, Raymond, Luxemburg, Sleepy Eye and Buckman were winners at New Prague’s Memorial Park Stadium during the first week of the Minnesota Amateur Baseball Tournament. All games were in the Class C portion of the tournament.

Eight other games were played at two sites each - Shakopee, which also hosted Class C games, and Jordan, which hosted the first round of the Class B tournament.

Ten games are scheduled to be played both in New Prague and Shakopee this weekend, with two other games scheduled for Jordan. New Prague and Shakopee will each host two Class B games, at 5 and 7:30 p.m. Friday, then eight Class C games, four each day, will be played in both New Prague and Shakopee on Saturday and Sunday. Game times are 11 a.m., 1:30, 5 and 7:30 p.m. both days. Jordan will host two Class B winners bracket games on Saturday.

The tournament concludes Labor Day weekend with one game in Jordan and the remainder scheduled for New Prague and Shakopee. New Prague is scheduled to host the Class C Championship game at 3 p.m. on Labor Day, Sept. 3.

In Class C, New Prague and St. Patrick, both won games at New Prague, with New Prague defeating Ortonville 7-3 Friday and St. Patrick winning 5-4 over Lamberton on Saturday. 

Two other DRS teams played elsewhere, with Faribault winning and Elko losing.

The three DRS winners, along with New Market, which had a first-round bye, will be in action Saturday and Sunday. St. Patrick will face Red Wing at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Shakopee. Three DRS teams will play Sunday in New Prague, beginning with New Market facing Pelican Rapids at 11 a.m., New Prague facing Hanska at 1:30 p.m. and Faribault taking on Mora at 5 p.m.

Other results: Faribault 2, Stewartville- Racine 0 Matt Lane struck out nine and allowed just three hits to get the complete game win as Faribault defeated Stewartville Racine 2-0. Dylan Valentine had two hits and Ryan Archambault had an RBI single for the Lakers. The game was played Sunday in Shakopee. Chanhassen 12, Elko 3 In Class B, Brandon Arnold had three home runs and six RBIs for Chanhassen as they defeated Elko 12-3. Riley Johnson and Derek Smith also had two hits each. Justin Anderson had a homer and three RBIs. Logan Spitzack pitched seven innings and had eight strikeouts for the win. Ash Larsen had two hits and an RBI for Elko. The game was played Sunday in Jordan. New Prague site highlights • Alex Lothammer pitched seven innings, allowing one hit and Cole Christianson picked up the save as Raymond defeated Princeton 3-0. • Athree-run first inning got Luxemburg off to a good start and they won 7-3 over Bluffton. Chase Aleshire went 4-for-5 and Logan Alehshire had three RBIs. Reed Pfannenstein picked up the win. • Trailing 4-1, an eight-run fifth inning reversed the fortunes of Sleepy Eye as they defeated Elrosa 9-4. Sean Mathiowetz got the win, pitching 6-1/3 innings of relief. Andy Woitas had three RBIs and Matt Mielke two hits for Sleepy Eye. 

Williamson hit a two-run double in the top of the 10th for a 4-2 extra-inning win over Pelican Rapids. Logan Kalis and Nick Jelacie had two hits each. Brett Kramer pitched four scoreless innings of relief for the win. • Austin Hadley’s three-run homer in the eighth inning lifted New London-Spicer to a 4-1 win over Howard Lake. Wyatt White had three hits for New London-Spicer. Austin VerSteeg got the win in relief. • Nate Dechaine pitched a five-hit, eight-strikeout game as Buckman defeated Waconia 5-1. Matt Kummet homered for Buckman. Winners at other Class C games at Shakopee were Jackson, Sartell, Maple Lake, Young America, Lastrup, Belle Plaine and Lake City. Besides Chanhassen, other Class B winners were Cold Spring, Dundas, Forest Lake, Miesville, Northfield, Moorhead and Sauk Rapids.
