Will plant artist get ‘Clipped’? Petricka to compete on TV show

She’s a Topiary Designer/Botanical Mosaic Artist, originally from Montgomery. She was the 2001 Kolacky Queen, and next week she will show the world her artistic skills on the new discovery+ show, “Clipped.”

Meghan Petricka, a 2002 Montgomery- Lonsdale High School graduate, joins six other artists in the competition series set in the topiary world. According to a press release, they create, “breathtaking sculptures out of meticulously trimmed shrubbery, plants and flowers - designing colorful, largerthan- life, living works of art.”

Petricka will make her debut in the six-episode competition series in a special 90-minute premiere on May 12.

“Plant yourself in the ultimate test of topiaries,” the trailer teases alongside clips of some standout designs, including a massive cheerleader, a working miniature golf display and a carousel filled with custom creations.

Each episode will have the garden sculptors face-off in a series of over-the-top challenges designed to test their talents. Petricka said viewers will see her clipping a yew tree and make carousel topiary animal.

“You get to see all of that on the premier episode,” she said.

After graduating from MLHS, Petricka, 36, the daughter of Donald and JoAnn Petricka studied graphic design and typography at the Arts Institute International Minnesota. She lives in Eden Prairie and is a Topiary Designer/Botanical Mosaic Artist. She and her husband are a topiary-welding duo and aim to be the Chip and Joanna Gaines of the plant world. She has close to 100 indoor tropical plants and around 300 propagated plants at their home. Their work has been on display at various theme parks, resorts, hotels, restaurants and museums worldwide.
