Deborah A. Bolanda, age 68, died suddenly on Sunday, May 20, 2018, with her husband at her side at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Shakopee. Deb was born on August 3, 1949 in New Prague to Harley H. and Hildegaard I.C. (Tietz) Meyer. She attended County District 61 Elementary School, graduated from New Prague High School, and earned her LPN degree at Miller Hospital School of Nursing. She started out working at Queen of Peace Hospital and then went to Methodist Hospital in St.
Margaret Rose (Toth) Mantick, age 83, died peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, May 16, 2018. “Margie” was born on May 11, 1935 in Wausau, WI and lived in Glandon on the family Farm. She was the youngest of 12 children. She was the only child of the family born in the hospital as a “change of life baby”. Her parents, Joseph and Rose (Korka) Toth came to America from Hungary, looking for a better life, and built up a family farm from scratch on 180 acres of land in Glandon, WI that became 1 of 4 outstanding farms in the town of Hewitt.
Flavian H. Weiers, age 91, of Union Hill, died peacefully on Sunday, May 20, 2018, at his home. He was born May 12, 1927, in Derrynane Township, Le Sueur County to Henry E. and Cecelia A. (Wolf) Weiers. He attended school at Union Hill and entered the US Army in 1950, was discharged in 1952, and then served in the Army Reserves until 1956. Flavian married Edna L. Barten on June 11, 1955 at St. John’s Catholic Church and the couple made their home in rural Union Hill.
Jim (Booger) Vanasek, Age 82 of Sun City, California, passed away on May 12th from ongoing heart related problems. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert & Ella (Prochaska). Jim was born in New Prague on February 22nd, 1936. He graduated from New Prague High School & Gustavus Adolphus College. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Ft. Riley, Kansas and Ft. Gordon, Georgia. Jim was an accountant and bookkeeper in Minnesota before he escaped to the warmer climate in Southern California in the early 1970s.
Carol Ann (nee Schoenbauer) McDonald , age 77, died May 11, 2018, at Our Lady of Peace Hospice in St. Paul, of a rare cancer that she accepted with inspiring grace.
She grew up in this area and attended St. Wenceslaus school and Bethlehem Academy and graduated from Mankato State University.
Hilda Marie Olive Nelson, 91, died May 3, 2018 at Charter House, Rochester, MN.
Born Dec. 4, 1926 in Durham, NC, she was a graduate of the Duke University School of Nursing. She married Norman K. Nelson of West Palm Beach, FL in 1949 and resided in Durham until 0964 when she and her family moved to Rochester, MN. Hilda was employed in orthopedic surgery at the Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Mary’s Campus, from 1975 until her retirement in 1991.
Donald Webb, 56, of Greeley, Colorado passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on May 6, 2018 in Greeley.
Donald was born in Winnebago, Illinois to Lonnie & Lois (Lenox) Webb on August 29, 1961. He grew up and went to school in New Prague, Minnesota and later moved to Colorado where he served Honorably in the Colorado National Guard.

Helen Dorothy Kajer, 89, of New Prague, died Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at Mala Strana Rehabilitation Center in New Prague.
She was born August 20, 1928, in New Prague, to Edward and Helen (Ziska) Kes. She attended St. Wenceslaus School and New Prague High School, graduating in 1946. She attended school in Minneapolis and was certified as an X-Ray technician. She returned to New Prague and worked at Community Memorial Hospital and later at Queen of Peace Hospital, where she helped Sister Catherine Open the Business Office.
Selma R. Bohnsack, age 91, of Cokato, formerly of New Prague, died peacefully on Monday, April 30, 2018, at Cokato Manor Nursing Home. Selma was born on September 14, 1926, in Lanesburgh Township, Le Sueur County to Fred August and Sophie M. (Ruehling) Jahn. She attended the Le Sueur County district school and graduated at age 16 from New Prague High School. She started work at the canning factory but was soon recruited by the State Bank of New Prague. Eventually, she went to Mahowald Motors, where she served as their bookkeeper/accountant for many years. Selma married Reuben W.
Mary Bigelow, age 61, of New Prague, passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at 11:30 AM, at Reflections Care Center in Northfield. Her husband John was there to witness her parting. Mary was born in 1956, in Shawnee Mission, Kansas. She graduated from Macalester College. For most of three decades, Mary cared for the Japanese Gardens of Carleton College in Northfield and the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum in Chanhassen where she was a Senior Landscape Gardener.
Gary M. Simon, age 67, of New Prague, died peacefully, surrounded by his family on Monday, April 16, 2018 at his home. Gary was born on July 6, 1950 in New Prague to Walter R. and Julia (Svoboda) Simon. He was raised in the Veseli area and attended Most HolyTrinity Catholic School, graduated from New Prague High School, and attended Mankato State College before enlisting in the National Guard. He married Shirley A. Havlicek on August 21, 1971 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Veseli. Gary worked as a laborer for FabCon in Savage for 46 years, never missing a day of work.
Don Merrill Love, age 79 of Seaford, DE; formerly of New Prague, MN; went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 6, 2018, at the Delaware Hospice Center after a recent diagnosis of terminal lung cancer. Don was born on September 22, 1938 in Marion, IN to Merrill and Ruth (Oldfather) Love.
Lulabelle Mary Theresa Cavanaugh, age 79, of Lakeville, passed away on April 12, 2018. Lulabelle was born October 29, 1938 in New Prague, to Jerome and Theresa Cavanaugh. When she was young she helped her parents farm and babysat for a lot of families around the St. Patrick and Lakeville area, later she worked for Fredrick Willis Company in Farmington. Lulabelle loved playing cards, going to the casino and spending time with her nieces and nephews especially her nieces and nephew, Rose, and Jeff Svoboda, Merri and her husband Greg and their kids, Abbigail and Griffin.
Roman W. Kalina, age 89 of Lonsdale, died peacefully on Thursday April 12, 2018 at Mala Strana Rehabilitation Center surrounded by family. Roman was born November 9, 1928 on a farm in Wheatland Township to Emanuel and Mary (Skluzacek) Kalina. He attended Immaculate Conception School in Lonsdale, Farm School in the Twin Cities and after serving two years in the army he went to GI School.
Robert Leroy Jones, 81, died peacefully at home on April 3, 2018.
Robert was born on August 7, 1936 to Raymond and Leona Jones in Bangor, Wisconsin. Robert served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and then worked for 35 years in the airline industry.
Robert married Carol Ann Weber on June 20, 1970 in Cudahy, Wisconsin. They later moved to Waunakee, Wisconsin where they raised their two children. Robert and Carol moved to New Prague, Minnesota in 2005 to be close to family.
