Council agrees to proceed with Fitness Center proposal

The New Prague City Council unanimously approved a motion to proceed with the Fitness Center proposal. At its Monday, May 21, meeting council member Dave Bruzek made the motion to proceed, although conservatively, with a proposal to add a fitness center to the operations of the New Prague Aquatic Center.

His motion came after the council continued a discussion from a Monday, May 14, joint meeting between the city, the New Prague Area School Board and representatives of Mayo Clinic Health System in New Prague. The three entities discussed the proposal, which had been negotiated between Mayo Clinic Health System and the Joint Powers Board, which operates the Aquatic Center and includes representatives of the school district and the city. Under the proposed agreement much of the Fitness Center’s cardio and weight equipment would be transferred to the Central Education Campus building, along with several employees. Mayo Clinic Health System’s Fitness Center would be closed and members would transition to a fitness center at the CEC building.
