EMS, police, are there when we need them

Page 2 of this week’s newspaper features a salute to the police and emergency medical service providers whose job it is to keep the people of the New Prague area safe.
May 13-19 is National Police Week, a week in which Americans are asked to recognize the service and sacrifice of U.S. law enforcement. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.
New Prague’s 10-member police department works around the clock, answering calls from residents and doing its best to keep members of the community safe.
May 20-26 is National EMS (Emergency Medical Services) Week, where we recognize the paramedics and emergency medical technicians who are on call 24 hours a day. Employees of North Ambulance based in New Prague are trained to respond quickly to emergencies, trauma situations, medical crises and accidents. Their training enables them to make fast decisions and give life-saving treatments in the field before transporting patients to the hospital.
These people are often taken for granted, and in the case of police, sometimes ridiculed and berated on social media for what some see as over-zealous enforcement of laws. But it’s nice to know that in an emergency situation, we can depend on their quick response to help keep us safe.
