ENM Chamber Dinner provides tips for the holidays
The Elko New Market Chamber of Commerce held its annual dinner on Thursday, Nov. 1, at The Firehouse Grille with more than 30 people attending. It was noted the chamber had four ribbon cuttings for new businesses this year and is planning to hold its Ladies Night Out in the spring. The community has also opened a branch of Hope for the Community food shelf, which has been helping hundreds of families since it began five months ago.
The main speaker was Jane McCampbell-Stuart, a licensed marriage and family therapist, who provided tips on getting through the holidays. She explained her personal experience was in celebrating Christmas in the United Kingdom, where she grew up. Her family made Christmas Day last as long as possible. Her grandfather was a vicar in the Church of England and they would attend one to three of his services. Following that her mother would prepare a five course meal for 20 people and gifts could not be opened until after dinner.
She said the holidays are made up of memories and traditions people share as a family, but those traditions get split up when the children....
