Gary L. Long, 64

Gary L. Long, age 64, of New Prague, died at his home on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 after a recent diagnosis of terminal lung cancer.  Gary was born on December 24, 1953, in Rice County, Faribault, Minnesota, to Gerald H. and Marion (Gatzke) Long.  He was raised in Milaca, Minnesota, where he attended high school and entered the U.S. Army following his junior year.  He served his country from 1972 to 1974.  He completed his GED in Germany and continued his education at various trade schools for welding, mechanical, and diesel engine.  Following military service, he was the owner-operator of his own shops: Long Small Engine, Long Welding, and Long Long-Haul Trucking, all out of Milaca, Minnesota.  He maintained an interest in mechanical repair throughout his life and considered himself a welding hobbyist. He enjoyed repairing the motorcycles of his friends until failing health prevented that activity.
Gary is survived by his sister, Jeanette (Gilbert) Fries of Belle Plaine; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Marion; brothers, Jerry and Danny Long.
A graveside service will be held at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery at a later date.  bruzekfuneralhome.com
