Hilda Marie Olive Nelson, 91

Hilda Marie Olive Nelson, 91, died May 3, 2018 at Charter House, Rochester, MN.

Born Dec. 4, 1926 in Durham, NC, she was a graduate of the Duke University School of Nursing. She married Norman K. Nelson of West Palm Beach, FL in 1949 and resided in Durham until 0964 when she and her family moved to Rochester, MN. Hilda was employed in orthopedic surgery at the Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Mary’s Campus, from 1975 until her retirement in 1991.

She is survived by her husband Norman; their children Heather (Steven) Ashley, Mendota Heights, Cherry (Richard) Jordan, New Prague, Forrest, Eagan, Devin (Lori) New Ulm and Cynthia Bung, Mankato; nine grandchildren including Jenny (Jeff) Schoenecker and great granddaughters Lily and Maizey Schoenecker, New Prague and Mike (Lisa) Zard, San Diego, CA; seven additional great grandchildren; a sister Billie (George) Wall, Wilmington, NC and a brother William Olive, Winston-Salem, NC. She was preceded in death by her sister Bobby Olive May.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 18, 2018, 11 am at First Presbyterian Church, Rochester. Hilda’s body has been donated, as she requested, to Mayo Clinic for medical education and research.
