It came down to final event NP boys’ swimmers drop ‘nail-biter’ to SLP

When two similarly matched teams put their best swimmers against one another, the results can often be quite close. Thus was the case when New Prague and St. Louis Park met in a dual meet Thursday, Jan. 19, with the Orioles winning 97-86.

“They have a couple of big dogs and we have a couple of big dogs,” said NPHS coach Kristen Munden. “NP would have won with a first place relay finish.”

The dual meet came down to the final race, the 400-freestyle relay. It was a tough finish determined by an official who disqualified the Trojans’ top relay team after one of the swimmers left the block a split second early. The ruling gave the firstplace points to the Orioles, assuring St. Louis Park the margin of victory. New Prague’s top relay finished in 3:26.84 – just .06 of a second behind St. Louis Park’s 3:26.78. New Prague’s second relay in the race – the team of Charlie Dvorak, Jack Gilles, Kieran Holets and Christian Engel – finished third in 3:59.99.

New Prague opened the dual meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay. The quartet of Jacob Bouley, Willem Serie, Charlie Dvorak and Carson Sayler finished in 1:59.27. New Prague’s Jack Torgerson, Jack Anderson, Christian Engel and Kieran Holets finished third in 2:10.39.
