Josephson scores winning goal against Jefferson

The New Prague girls soccer team recorded a pair of shutouts in splitting two of four games last week.

The Trojans blanked Bloomington Jefferson, 1-0 in overtime, Tuesday, Sept. 14. They also recorded a 3-0 shutout of Mayer Lutheran Thursday, Sept. 16. Rochester Century shut out the Trojans, 6-0, Saturday, Sept. 18. Monday, Sept. 20 St. Louis Park edged New Prague, 1-0.

In the win over Jefferson, Evie Wegner took a corner kick that found Madi Josephson making a near post run and she was able to slip the ball past the Jefferson keeper.

“Overall we needed to bring the energy to this game because we were shorthanded due to some illnesses,” head coach Matt Anderson said. “The girls that played brought a lot of positivity, energy, and had a great work ethic. This was probably the most complete team game and win so far this season.”

In the win over Mayer Lutheran, Evie Wegner scored a pair of goals and Paige Hawley opened the game with a score.
