Kay Schanus, 74

Kay Schanus, age 74, of New Prague, died suddenly at her home on Monday, July 13, 2020.  Kay was born on January 27, 1946 in La Crosse, WI to Arnold and Pat (Corcoran) Forschler.  She attended and graduated from Brownsville Public Schools and went on to attend secretarial school in Winona, MN.  She worked for a short time at the University of Minnesota, then for 32 years as the medical secretary for Dr. Roger Rynda, and finally for 11 years as the friendly face behind the counter for New Prague Marketplace.  She married the love of her life, Daniel J. Schanus, on December 19, 1970 at Le Center.  Kay’s life revolved around her family; her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews were the center of her world.  She loved nothing more than to cuddle the newest baby to enter the family. She enjoyed feeding people and was a consummate cook and baker, who could always be depended on to bring a casserole to someone in need.  A woman of faith, she was active at St. Scholastica Catholic Church and helped with the annual church breakfast.  She enjoyed playing cards and word search puzzles, and knitting.  She was an avid supporter of tractor-pulls and shows and a member of the Upper Midwest Allis Chalmers Club and Scott-Carver Threshers Association.  Kay was a generous, kind, and loving woman and never hesitated to give freely of herself and her possessions;  many were blessed to call her friend and her ready smile and positive outlook will be missed by so many.

Kay is survived by her sons, Daniel (Michelle) Schanus of Willmar, Neil (Lori) Schanus of Cambridge, Scott Schanus of New Prague; grandchildren, Aaron Schanus, Calvin (Jolissa) Schanus, Jaylee Rae Schanus; great-grandchild, Koneko; brother, Richard (Kari) Forschler of Minneapolis.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Danny on March 27, 2003; her parents.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, July 17, 2020 at 11:00 AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Father Eugene Theisen officiating.  Mass will be live-streamed on npcatholic.org.  Those attending are strongly encouraged to wear masks.  Burial will follow Mass at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Wounded Warriors or the American Heart Institute.  bruzekfuneralhome.com
