KCHK celebrates 400th milestone of ‘Live Musicians Friday’

There was very noticeable activity just northeast of New Prague at the KCHK radio station along Highway 13 on Friday, Sept. 11. The celebration of the station’s 400th “Live Musicians Friday” or “L-M-F” show took place throughout the morning.

The practice of inviting musicians into the studio to play live on KCHK started in August of 2012. “From the time it began to present day, there has never been a Friday morning without a live music performance for 2 plus hours,” said KCHK Manager Tom Goetzinger. If one does the math, it would be discovered that the Friday Sept. 11, show was actually the 423rd in a row. Goetzinger explained, “We celebrate our milestone shows (100th July 2014, 200th June 2016, and 300th May 2018) with a large and long Jam Session with several players performing throughout the morning. To accomplish this, we need to have decent weather as the nearly 50 musicians who arrive to perform need to wait outside until it’s their turn to play.” The actual 400th show fell on April 3, 2020 which didn’t provide ideal weather for hanging out in the elements under a tent. “We celebrated the actual 400th show on April 3 with an offering which featured Bob Pexa, who was the very first performer back in 2012.
