Kenneth Bruzelius

We lost a good one 9-23-2022 during the night from medical complications. Kenneth Bruzelius was born (1935) during a blizzard in a log cabin outside of Northhome, Minnesota to Daniel and Lavina Bruzelius. He was the youngest of four, sister Florence (Breeze) and two brothers, Daniel and Robert.

After graduating from Northhome High School, Ken followed his dream to Bethany Bible College in California where he studied to become a preacher. There he met a local lifeguard, Kathleen Mullin, who-as told by dad-saved his life by dunking him several times until he agreed to marry her. Their marriage endured for 60 years.

They settled in Oregon where Keith, Kari, and Kevin were born. Drawing from his experiences in northern Minnesota, Ken became a logger by day and a part-time pastor on weekends in the small logging town of Bates.

When the logging town was closed down by the company, Kenneth moved his family back to Minnesota. He pastored in Windom, where their daughter Kristen was born, and then in Park Rapids.

Ken finally found his work niche in the non-profit community in South Dakota. He later founded the Midwest Assistance Program he relocated to New Prague. He earned his Masters in Public Administration at Hamlin University.

Ken and Kathie helped found Spirit of Life church and Triumphant Life church in New Prague and Lonsdale, MN. Ken enjoyed fishing up north with extended family, volunteering at the Burnsville YMCA where he especially loved playing basketball with his grandsons and their friends. If you got up early enough, you may have seen Ken walking his dog to Lau’s bakery where he participated in the apple fritter and cappuccino once daily program. In his later years he honed his skills at puzzles, sunbathing, and caring for his cat Polly.

Kenneth is proceeded in death by his wife Kathleen (Mullin), sister Florence (Breeze), brother Daniel, and daughter-in-law Brenda (Sherman). He is survived by his brother Robert and children Keith (Cheri), Kari (Robert), Kevin, and Kristen. Also grandchildren Nathanial, Timothy (Laura), Erich, Deanna, Zachery (Lyssa Lou), Allyssa, Josiah (Jewel), and Miles.

The family will celebrate Ken’s life next summer with a special fishing trip in memory of Kenneth and Kathleen.
