New Prague girls’ lacrosse goes 1-1 at sections

New Prague’s girls’ lacrosse team went 1-1 at the Class 1A, Section 1 playoffs. The Trojans won their first game Tuesday, May 28, 16-5, hosting Rochester John Marshal/Lourdes. New Prague then lost, 19- 13, to Southwest Christian, Wednesday, May 29.

Southwest Christian 19, Trojans 13 The Trojans, the No. 6 seed, began with the lead over Southwest Christian, the No. 3 seed, during the May 29 road game as the first quarter ended with New Prague leading 4-2.

“It went really well. The girls played extremely well,” said New Prague head coach Drew Danner.

Southwest Christian came back in the second to outscore the Trojans, as the quarter ended with the Stars leading 9-7. From there, Southwest Christian led the game, but New Prague fought to stay in the.

The Trojans’ Payton Pumper led her team with five goals. She was followed by Anna Millard with three and Sophie Baker with two. Aftyn Anderson, Lilly Wieland and Ellie Schmidt each scored one goal apiece.

“We had a lot of great individual players,” said Danner.
