NP swimmers continue assault on school, pool records

Section meet at Lakeville this week

Members of the New Prague High School swimming & diving team say the difference between setting a new school or pool record is razor thin, a difference equating to tenths or hundredths of a second. Or, between making it to the state meet and coming up just short.

The Trojans will be competing at the section meet this week at Lakeville’s Blanchard Aquatic Center at Century Middle School. Competition begins at 6 p.m. The swimming preliminary round was last night, Wednesday, Nov. 8, and the diving preliminaries and finals tonight, Thursday, Nov. 9. The swimming finals are slated for Friday, Nov. 10.

The Trojans have six athletes who have set new school or pool records during the season. Swimmers Taylor Bassett, Carolyn DeLuca, Ava Koloc, Payten Schieffer, Ella Lund and diver Nellie Dalsin have broken records for New Prague High School or the various competition venues during the season. Their primary aim this week is to make the state field and advance from the section race at Lakeville to the state meet at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center at the University of Minnesota, Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 16-18.

And along the way, if they break another record, that’s just icing on the cake.
