NPHS Sports update - June 1

New Prague senior Caleb Loney qualified for the State Class AA Track and Field meet by throwing a personal best 48 feet, 10 inches to take second place in the shot put at the Section 2AA meet in St. Peter Wednesday, May 30. He was the only Trojan to earn a state berth in the first day of competition, where four events were finalized. Day 2 of the meet begins at 9 a.m. Friday, June 1. 

 

The Trojan baseball team lost to Lakeville North 1-0 Wednesday in a rain-delayed second round game in the Section 1AAAA baseball tournament. The Trojans’ next game had been scheduled for Thursday, May 31, but another game between Farmington and Lakeville South was postponed for a second day and will be played Thursday. The winner of that game will play at New Prague at 5 p.m. Friday, June 1. Friday’s winner advances to the next round Saturday, June 2, at Dundas. 

 

The Trojan boys golf team placed fifth of 12 teams and missed advancing to Day 2 of the Section 2AAA tournament by six strokes Wednesday, May 30, at Ridges at Sand Creek GC in Jordan. Two Trojans did advance to the second round, scheduled for Monday, June 4. Henry Geiger shot a 73, tied for seventh and four strokes out of the lead, and Joey Hunt shot a 78, tied for 29th. Teammate Logan Hallet missed qualifying by one stroke, shooting a 79. Waconia, Chaska, Minnetonka and Eden Prairie advanced in team competition. 

 

The Trojan girls golf team finished seventh of 12 teams at the Section 2AAA meet Wednesday, May 30. Top Trojan was Brooke Buthe, shooting a 91. She did not advance to the second round. Chanhassen, Minnetonka, Shakopee and Hutchinson were the four teams advancing in team play.
