According to a preliminary report from the New Prague Police Department, a Scott County Sheriff’s Deputy and New Prague Police Officer were apparently involved in a struggle with a motorist around 3:57 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 6.

The Sheriff’s Office received a call of an erratic vehicle on Highway 169, who then turned onto Highway 21. A sheriff’s deputy caught up with the driver near the intersection of Fourth Avenue NW and Sixth Street and turned on their lights. The driver apparently pulled into the parking lot of Braith Auto Repair. A New Prague Police Officer pulled up to the scene shortly thereafter. Both the deputy and officer made contact with the driver and a passenger in the vehicle.

The driver then apparently took a six-inch fixed bladed knife that was in the car and tried to hold it up to her own neck. The deputy and police officer struggled with the driver taking the knife away and were able to get the driver out of the car and down on the ground where she still struggled.

Additional law enforcement responded to the scene. For more see an upcoming print issue of The New Prague Times.
