Philipp Square residents take time to deck the halls

Philipp Square Senior Apartments in New Prague was looking festive and ready for the Christmas season as a multitude of Santa figurines, Nativities, stockings, snowmen, Christmas trees, a few Disney characters, a setting for Christmas Tea and even a penguin were placed about the halls and common areas. The decorations were placed there by the residents of the senior apartment complex on First Avenue NW. It might be the beginning of a Holiday tradition as this was the first year the residents put up the ornaments themselves.

For the last several years an interior designer usually would decorate the lobby and four floors, but she was unable to help this year. The residents came together and decided to put out the decorations, plus a few of their own, around Philipp Square.

Mary Ellen Weeman, manager of the apartments, said the residents were excited about decorating.

They came up with their own schedule on who would be decorating which floor and had help from their families. The residents, ranging in age from 63 to 91, said they were done anywhere from a little over two hours to some taking the entire day. They proudly explained they started the Friday after Thanksgiving. They also had floral arrangements on the tables in the meeting room.
