Roger J. Schommer, 65

Roger J. Schommer, age 65, of New Prague died peacefully on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at Mala Strana Health and Rehabilitation Center. Roger was born on December 16, 1957 in Shakopee to Joseph and June (Schmidt) Schommer. He graduated from Belle Plaine High School, where he was very active in FFA. Farming was the soul of his life and he operated the Schommer Family Farm for many years and then continued farming by working at Sunderman Farms in Le Sueur and Holden Farms in Northfield. He met the woman who would capture his heart, Brenda Backe Vosejpka and married her at Rejoice Church in Dundas, MN on September 1, 2012. Love of the land and farming filled even his leisure time with time spent at tractor pulls, Pioneer Power, and collecting John Deere tractors. He loved fishing and his favorite place to visit was watching ships come into Duluth Harbor. Roger was a man with a "grumpy old men" appearance that belied his big heart and hidden teddy bear softness. There was nothing that apple pie and Southern Comfort couldn't make better and he had a great sense of humor when he was feeling good! He faced many health challenges with courage and grace throughout his life. In the last two years, when dialysis required a ride to Dundas three times a week, he was blessed with the arrival of a man who would become a special friend, Brian Lohberger, who would remain with him until the end.
Roger is survived by his wife, Brenda Schommer of New Prague; step-children, Chad Vosejpka of Northfield, Josh (Nicci) Vosejpka of Northfield, Abbie Vosejpka of New Prague; grandchildren, Carter, Madison, JJ, Jason, Oliver, Charlie, & Nora; sisters, Carolyn (Ron) Beckel, Ruth (Gary) Pederson, Mary Jo (Bob) Effertz, many nieces & nephews, cousins, and good friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; stepson, Nick Vosejpka; nephew, John Beckel.
