New Prague senior Amanda Giesen was honored last week with a ball signifying her scoring her 1,000th career point. Activities Director Brad Skogerboe presented Giesen with the ball. New Prague senior Emily Russo was named one of 40 Minnesota seniors as a finalist for the honor of Miss Basketball.

Russo, who has scored close to 1,600 points and has more than 800 rebounds, joins a number of local players as a finalist.

Gus Boyer of Waseca, Sarah Conlon of St. Peter, Annie Guentzel of Lakeville South, Lauren Jensen of Lakeville North, Mackenzie Kramer of St. Michael-Albertville, and Molly Mogensen of Farmington are among the finalists.

“It’s a great accomplishment for Emily to be on that first cut of Miss Basketball. She has had a wonderful career in the Trojan uniform,” Trojan head coach Luke Swedberg said. “Emily is one of the most relentless workers I have ever seen, but the greatest thing about her is that she always puts the team’s success before her own, and that is what makes her truly special.”
