Trojan boys win 2

The New Prague Trojan boys soccer team won two of three matches last week, defeating Mound Westonka and Rochester Century. The Trojans also lost to Holy Family Catholic. 

New Prague lost to Chaska 7-2 on Monday, Sept. 16. Details of that game will be in next week’s issue. 

The Trojans return to action Thursday, Sept. 19, when they host Waconia at 5 p.m. They play Mayer Lutheran at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23, at Watertown-Mayer HS, and will host Rockford on Thursday, Sept. 26.

Coach Gospel Kordah said this game was one of the team’s better outings of the season, despite the loss. 

“Holy Family is always a tough game and I was very happy with how we played,” he said. “I saw lots of improvements to our game. One player that really stood out was goalkeeper Jordan Chock. He played aggressive and was more alert. He made some key saves and kept us in the game.” 

Defensively, Kordah said the Trojans played better and will continue to build on that. 

"We made some positive changes to our midfield. Cav McLoone, Blake Skwira, Dustin Andersen and Joshua Mader really stepped up for us. They were able to connect and find players on a run. 

 The Fire scored the game’s only goal in the first half, then held on for the win.

 “We needed a game to get our confidence up and we all agreed going in that this would be our game,” Kordah said of his team’s September 12 game against Mound Westonka. “My boys were focused and we started the game with great intensity. Mound Westonka is always tough for us and we knew that this had to be a game that we do all the little things right.”
