Trojan girls take 2nd at conference CC meet

The New Prague Trojan girls cross country team traveled to Baker National Golf Course in Medina for the Wright County Conference East Championships Tuesday, Oct. 15.

The girls set a goal at the beginning of the season to place second at the conference meet. Looking at the "virtual meet" data, the Trojans were ranked third of six teams; well behind Waconia, but within reach of Orono. They knew it would take a strong team effort to reach their goal. Unfortunately, they faced a setback before the meet even started. Nora Rosemeier suffered an injury which prevented her from competing. If the Trojans were to reach their goal, they would have to do it without their top runner.

It was a pair of youngsters - freshman Kayal Lafaurie and eighth-grader Sophie Baker, who led the Trojans to a second-place finish.

Waconia won the meet with 36 points, with New Prague finishing second at 53. Delano was third at 70, with Orono (93) and Hutchinson (99) taking fourth and fifth. Holy Family did not field a full squad.

Isabelle Schmitz, an eighth-grader from Hutchinson, won the meet in a time of 19 minutes, 27 seconds.
