Trojan tennis team toppled by Tigers, Cougars
The New Prague Trojan boys tennis team lost a couple of matches last week, falling to Hutchinson and Mankato East. The team is 1- 3 (0-1 Wright County Conference) on the season.
The team was scheduled to compete at Mound Westonka Tuesday, April 24, and will host Delano Friday, April 27. On Monday, April 30, the Trojans host Prior Lake, then play at Holy Family on Tuesday, May 1. New Prague is at Orono Thursday, May 3.
Tigers 7, Trojans 0 The Trojan varsity tennis team traveled to WCC foe Hutchinson for an indoor meet Tuesday, April 17, and lost to the Tigers 7-0.
Evan Zimmer played at No. 1 singles for the Trojans and had the most success, losing 6-2, 7-5. No other Trojan player or doubles team won more than four games in their match.
Also playing singles were Jacob Wilson, Sam Lambrecht and Isaac Tietz.
Doubles teams were Justin Klegstad/Jack Guerrette, Zach Sirek/Luke Schoenbauer and Sagan Shetka/Thomas Carroll.
“Today we got to see Evan Zimmer step up and show that he's ready to hit at a higher level,” Coach Ben Hilding said. “The opposing coaches commented on how each of our guys, even when they were down big, fought until the end.
“Hutchinson has a strong group of seniors this year, and their experience showed. They simply played at a faster pace. As the snow melts, practice time will really help our team. It'll be good to get some repetitions for all of our strokes.”
