Trojans girls to host Waconia in home finale

The New Prague Trojans dropped into a tie for first place with Holy Family Catholic after losing to the Fire 61-47 in Victoria Friday. Earlier in the week, New Prague defeated Orono 60- 43.

The Trojans have just two games remaining in the regular season. They host Waconia Friday, Feb. 16, in their final home game of the regular season, then they travel to Delano Friday, Feb. 22. New Prague and Holy Family are tied for the Wright County Conference East lead at 6-2, with Waconia one game back at 5-3. Both teams have games remaining with Waconia, so the conference title race is a three-team affair.

Trojans 60, Spartans 43 New Prague got off to a quick start on offense Tuesday, Feb. 5, at Orono. "That kind of fueled us throughout the game," said Coach Luke Swedberg. "It was nice for us to hit some shots early and get to the rim. Our defense was solid in our help and rotations. We played with a lot of energy."

Emily Russo led the Trojans with 20 points and 14 rebounds. Amanda Giesen had 12 pointsand four assists and Kate Seymour had 10 points. Also scoring for New Prague were Emma Anderson (7), Bethany Vasecka and Sarah Berg (4 each) and Moly Giesen (3). Vasecka also pulled down 10 rebounds. Anderson had three steals and a blocked shot for the Trojans.
