William F. Proshek, 86

William “Bill” Frank Proshek, age 86, of New Prague, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at Mala Strana Rehabilitation Center in New Prague. 

Bill is survived by his wife, Mary; sons Scott (Patty) of Shakopee; Todd (Mary Kay) of New Prague; Tom (Sandra Lynn-Proshek) of New Prague; daughter Ann Brickman (Steve) of Huntersville, NC;  grandchildren:  Nathan (Kim) Proshek, Paul (Tina) Proshek, Morgan Proshek, Katelyn (Tyler) Koonst, Bria Brickman, Madison Brickman, Melina Lynn, Rob Svobodny, Alix Svobodny and Dani Johnson;  great grandchildren: Adam and Hailey Proshek, Ben and Will Proshek, Katie and Grant Koonst;  brother Bob Proshek of North Carolina. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and brother John.

Bill was born on June 11, 1933, in New Prague, the son of H. Frank and Margaret (Mealey) Proshek.  Bill was a lifelong resident of New Prague.  He attended the New Prague High School and was a successful athlete playing football and basketball.  He spent a few years in the Army before choosing to become a bricklayer and attending brick layers school.

Bill married Mary Lou Mahowald on May 5th, 1956.   They raised their 4 children in the brick home Bill built.  Bill worked as a bricklayer for 40+ years, having worked on many iconic buildings in the MN landscape, leaving his personal mark on every one of them.  He volunteered his talents by putting in the brick steps in front of St. Wenceslaus Church in New Prague.   Bill’s hobbies included woodworking, trains, following sports and cutting wood to heat the family home.  He was always willing to share a story about his trains and enjoyed showing others his train display. Bill also passed on his love of sports to his children and grandchildren and enjoyed attending the kid’s activities.

The family would like to thank the staff at Mala Strana for their kindness and care for Bill the last three years.

Visitation Monday September 23, from 9:00 – 11:00 am.  Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am all held at St. Wenceslaus Church 215 Main Street East, New Prague. Burial will take place at St. Wenceslaus where military honors will be conducted by the New Prague Veterans Honor Guard.  Lunch will follow at the New Prague Golf Club.  bruzekfuneralhome.com
