The for sale sign still stands outside the Le Sueur City Museum, but according to legal records, the historic property has been sold.

Le Sueur County Historical Society (LCHS) sold the property in January.

The land and buildings at 709 2nd Street North in Le Sueur, which is the location of the Le Sueur City Museum, are now owned by dairy cooperative Agropur Inc., according to an online property search.

A warranty deed filed with Le Sueur County in January 2018, indicates that the sale of the property occurred on January 17.

The estimated market value of the property is listed as $157,300.

LCHS President Jenifer Morsching is named as having acknowledged the filing of the warranty deed for the old schoolhouse that was converted into a museum.

Efforts made to contact LCHS representatives were unsuccessful.

According to Katherine Elke of Le Sueur, who toured the old schoolhouse that was converted into a museum with a realtor and LCHS representative Kathy Burns in November 2017, Burns informed her the historical society would have six months or so to clear the building out.

“The museum has been closed for years,” Elke explained, but when she toured the property, she noted that there was still memorabilia and items inside.

The museum was noted to hold a complete history of the Green Giant Company — noted worldwide for the famous Green Giant vegetable products, displays of veterinary medicine, and an “old time” drug store.

“Selling off… properties doesn’t seem right to me when it was my belief the spirit of a Historical Society is to preserve the history,” commented Elke, whose concern regarding the historical property spiked interest on Facebook and had people questioning the status of the items they donated to the museum.

The sale of the Le Sueur City Museum is the most..........
