TCU soccer to hold performance and training camp

Any athlete wanting to increase total body strength, power, multi-directional speed, agility, hand-eye quickness and flexibility can do so with the new Titans United Soccer Fall Performance Camp and Combine.

The new camp will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 8 p.m. at TCU Montgomery Elementary/Middle School. It begins September 4 and continues to October 16. Soccer Coach Carey Langer, a ninth and tenth grade social studies teacher at TCU High School, said the camp is geared to improve athletes’ skills - no matter the sport - and keep interest alive in TCU’s newest athletic offering.

The district had approved soccer as a junior high sport last year, however the timing of sign up at the end of the school year and over the summer resulted in few athletes shy to get the sport up and running. Langer hopes the camp will change that.

“We can start taking the kids who are interested and really want to play, and start training them doing skills and agility,” he said. “That way we can build momentum, get it visible, and when we get to spring, we know we have the commitment we need to get it locked in as a varsity (fall) sport."
