Gordon A. Smith, 90

Gordon A. Smith, age 90, of Faribault, died on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at Homestead Hospice, Owatonna.

         Memorial services will be held at Grace Baptist Church, Owatonna, on Friday, September 14, 2018 at 10 a.m. with the Reverend David Levy officiating. Interment and military rites will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.

         Memorial visitation will be at the church for one hour prior to the service on Friday.

         Gordon Alvin, the son of Frank and Nellie (Miller) Smith, was born August 25, 1928 in St. Paul. He married Marilyn Buscho on November 4, 1953 in Waterville. Gordon served in the military for over 20 years, first in the Army Air Corp and then the regular Army. Later, he was employed with Nelson’s Marketplace, Faribault and Great Plains Lumber, Morristown. Gordon enjoyed hunting and was an exceptional handyman, building both their first house as well as the family home in Morristown.

         He is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Faribault; five children, Dan (and Deb) Smith of Kilkenny, Chris (and Deb) Smith of Waseca, Sam (and Jamie) Smith of Amboy, Andy (and Cheryl) Smith of Owatonna and Sara (and David) Staley of New Richland; 15 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; one brother, Louis (and Thelma) Smith of California; three sisters, Lois Meschke of Rapidan, Eva Tiemen of Rochester and Jeanette Marley of Preston; one sister in law, Carol Little; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

         He was preceded in death by his parents; parents in law, Harold and Lois Buscho; a brother, Ike Smith; one sister, Nellie Lamping; two half sisters, Pearl Bailey and Alice Kenny.
