For the ninth time, the Waterville Indians amateur baseball team has reached the State Tournament.

The Indians defeated Belle Plaine, 4-0 Sunday, August 4 in the game which clinched their second straight State appearance.

The other years the Indians advanced to State were in 1933, 1994, 1999, 2000 (placing 5th), 2001, 2007, 2012, and 2018.

Waterville will play Jordan for the Region 6C Championship at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, August 10 at Jordan.

The winner will be the No. 1 seed and the loser the No. 2 seed from the Region in the Class C State Tourney.

The State Tournament starts the weekend of August 15 in Maple Lake, Dassel, and Delano.

First round State Tourney games will be announced this weekend.

A total of three teams from Region 6C will advance, with Jordan and Waterville earning two of these spots.

Belle Plaine, Morristown, Henderson, Eagle Lake, St. Clair, and Blue Earth will play Friday, August 9 and Saturday, Aug 10 for that final berth.

The Indians lost to Jordan, 6-3, in last year’s Region 6C Championship game. Waterville is the No. 1 seed out of the 13-60 League and Jordan is the No. 1 seed from the River Valley League. Jordan is rated 4th in Class C and Waterville is rated 9th.

Waterville will enter the Region Championship game with a 30-1 record, including winning their last 30 straight. Jordan has a 28-7 record. Their losses have been to Baseball 365 (a team Waterville defeated this season), Gaylord, Waconia, Moorhead, Miesville, St. Louis Park, and Cologne.

For more on the two weekend wins by the Indians, check out the Sports Page in this edition.

Next week the Indian’s State Tournament opponent will be revealed in the August 15 edition of the Life/Enterprise.
