Playoffs start Thursday in Waterville WEM scores 39 runs in wins over Kenyon-Wanamingo and Maple River

If you would have heard the scores of the WEM baseball team’s two games last week you might have thought they were playing slo-pitch softball.

The Bucs scored 39 runs in picking up a pair of wins, raising their overall record to 12-5. The Bucs defeated Kenyon-Wanamingo 23-2 Tuesday, May 14 and avenged an early loss to Maple River Thursday, May 16, routing the Eagles 16-0. 12-4 earlier this month. Both games lasted only five innings.

Bladyn Bartelt continues his spectacular season on the mound, allowing only two hits in five innings against the Eagles. He struck out 12 and walked two in lowering his earned run average to 0.221.

In 31 innings, the Minnesota State University, Mankato signee, has allowed only one earned run and has struck out 72 batters.

The WEM offense scored 10 runs in the first inning.
