Three of four DRS baseball teams advanced to the round of 16 at the Minnesota Class C Amateur Baseball Tournament over the weekend.
 

High winds and heavy rain blew through New Prague shorlty before 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 27. Tree branches were down in several areas of the community, including this one on First Ave SW. Other areas had worse, with a tornado warning issued in northeastern Rice County and heavy damage in the Kasota area of southwestern Le Sueur County. New Prague remains in a severe thunderstorm watch until 10 p.m.

Viola Mae Wondra, 90, of Montgomery, passed away on Friday, August 24, 2018, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. 
 
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 26, 2018, at Schoenbauer Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 27 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery with visitation one hour prior at the church. Father Victor Valencia will be officiating. Interment will be at St. John Catholic Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.

Tractors, new and antique functioning motors of all shapes and sizes aren't the only things happening at Pioneer Power. The show is also hosting historical construction equipment, antique trucks and food. The 45th annual show is also featuring music throughout the weekend, including that of the James Busta Band. There is also a Parade of Equipment, tractor pull, and an ecumenical church service. The parade of equipment is Saturday and Sunday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. each day. See more in the print edition. People were checking out the street vendors and shops participating in the second annual Flea Market Plus in New Prague despite overcast skies on Friday, Aug. 24. The sales and deals continue on Saturday, Aug. 25, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The forecast calls for a beautiful day for sidewalk sales and savings at the stores with partial sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-70s to the low 80s. The for sale sign still stands outside the Le Sueur City Museum, but according to legal records, the historic property has been sold.
Le Sueur County Historical Society (LCHS) sold the property in January.
The land and buildings at 709 2nd Street North in Le Sueur, which is the location of the Le Sueur City Museum, are now owned by dairy cooperative Agropur Inc., according to an online property search.
A warranty deed filed with Le Sueur County in January 2018, indicates that the sale of the property occurred on January 17.

The New Prague City Council approved at its Monday, Aug. 20, meeting a 3.2 percent off-sale malt liquor license for the new Kwik Trip in New Prague.
The city received an application from the Kwik Trip at 100 Fourth Ave. NW, which is currently under construction. It is proposed that operation of the liquor license at the business will begin on or after Monday, Sept. 10, with the license period to run from that date and expire on March 31, 2019.

Duban, Thomas G., age 87 of Lonsdale passed away August 22, 2018. Preceded in death by his wife, Martha (nee Svoboda); grandson, Darrin; sisters, Martha Tupy and Rose Peterson; brother-in-law, Al Swedin. 
Survived by his children, Leonard (Sharon), Wallace (Linda), Renee (Dale) Detlie, Dennis (Ann), Denise (Dan) Nelson, Charles, Edward, and Patricia (David) Houseworth; 18 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; siblings, Mary Ann (Richard) Langeslag, Robert (Sylvia), David (Bonnie), and Juanita Swedin; also by loving nieces and nephews.

Friedges, James L., age 80 of New Market, passed away August 20, 2018. Jim was born on the family farm in New Market in 1938. He lived on the family farm until he married Jeanne Oldenburg in 1967. Together they had 4 children and lived in New Market their entire lives. Jim worked at the Ford Plant in St. Paul for 32.6 years. In 1972 Jim became the city clerk for New Market and later became the Mayor from 1992-2005. He was also in charge of planning and zoning. While Mayor he had many successes growing a small town in changing times.

Alvin Ambroz, age 84, of Madelia, MN, formerly of Waterville/New Prague, MN died on Friday, August 10, 2018, at the Madelia Community Hospital.
A Service was held at the Luther Memorial Home, on Thursday, August 16, 2018 at 10:00 am, followed by military honors by the Madelia Area Veterans Honor Guard.
The clergy was Father Timothy Hall. Interment was at the Medo-Central Cemetery in Pemberton, MN.
Arrangements were with the Sturm Funeral Home in Madelia. On line condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com.

Marion Tupy (Mary Ann Marek), 80
It is with tremendous sadness that the family of Marion Tupy (Mary Ann Marek), 80, announce her passing. Marion was born to the late Joseph A. & Emily Marek on September 28, 1937. She died peacefully at her home surrounded by family members on August 19, 2018.
The oldest of 5 children, Marion was born in Lonsdale, Minnesota and grew up in Londsdale on the family farm. She graduated from New Prague High School, Class of 1955.

Violet V. Krohn, age 86, of New Prague, died peacefully on Monday, August 20, 2018 at The Villages of Lonsdale.  Vi was born on October 10, 1931 in Lexington Township, Le Sueur County to Louis & Valdeyn (Preuss) Gruetzmacher.  She was raised on Lexington Lake and left home at age 16 to attend Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm.  She married Orville W.

Marilyn A. Hudspeth, age 71, of New Prague, died peacefully in the presence of her loving family on Sunday, August 19, 2018 at St. Gertrude’s Health and Rehabilitation Center. Marilyn was born on October 23, 1946 in Algona, Iowa, to Le Roy and Alma (Grandgenett) Stoffel. She graduated from Bishop Garrigan High School and following business school, worked at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. She married Thomas A. Hudspeth on June 14, 1969 at St. Cecelia’s Catholic Church in Algona and the couple eventually settled in New Prague.  Marilyn was an active member in St.
