Rice County Highway Engineer Dennis Luebbe appeared at the Morristown City Council’s March 2 meeting to discuss the possibility of connecting a trail or sidewalk from Highway 60 to Verdev Drive.
“That project is still in our 10-year plan,” Luebbe said. “The county board approved it in the middle of February. We’re looking at trying to secure money from MnDOT, through one of their grants.”
Luebbe says they have tried to get a grant for that project for a few years.
“In the meantime, the condition of Highway 44 doesn’t get any better, and what we had really hoped to do was tie the two projects together,” Luebbe said. “Under one contract, we could upgrade the pavement section, fix maybe some curb and gutters and drainage issues, and then put a sidewalk or trail behind the curb.”
Once the project is officially funded, Luebbe could return to the council to have a more formal discussion on the details of where the council would want the trail to be.
