Three advance to State Speech Meet

Three members of the WEM Speech team have advanced to the Class A State Speech Meet, which will be held Saturday, April 25 at Park Center High School.

Seniors Kayla Bronk and Abby Crosby and sophomore Lacey Reysack advanced by placing in the top three of their individual events at the Section 2A Meet held Friday, April 10 at JWP High School.

“I am so proud of the team this year. They have worked hard. The team overall tied for 5th place out of 13 teams,” Coach Rachel Wendlandt said. In addition to the three State qualifiers, senior Auston Holicky finished fifth in the Great Speeches category.

Crosby placed 2nd in Discussion earning her way to the state tournament. She has been a member of the team since 2021. She took last year off from Discussion to explore Duo but decided to go back to Discussion. This year she has had two first place finishes, a third place finish, and a fifth place finish. She was also the Gopher Conference Champion.

Discussion is a category in which participants work as a collective to complete a political task. Their goal is to be inclusive while still standing out and being well informed.

Bronk placed 2nd in Extemporaneous Reading. She has also been a member since 2021. She has competed in Ex. Reading the entire time.
