Carmen Irene Wessels, 66

Carmen Irene Wessels, age 66, of Waterville passed away at her home on Wednesday, July 19, 2023.

Born on January 24, 1957 in Faribault, Carmen was the daughter of Gerald and Darlene (Courtney) Hoban. She attended Waterville-Elysian High School and graduated with the class of 1975. She continued her education at Worthington Community College to specialize in accounting. Following her education, Carmen took care of the accounting for her husband’s electrical business. On May 29, 1976, she was united in marriage to Ronald Wessels at Evangelical United Methodist Church in Waterville. Together, they had two children, Tyson and Tanya.

In her free time, Carmen loved gardening, cooking, baking & canning. She also had a natural gift for arts & crafts and was known for her wonderful calligraphy handwriting. She helped her mother with the popcorn stand for many years. She was a devoted mother who loved her children more than anything. She was extremely selfless and caring for everyone in her life, she will be dearly missed.

 Carmen is survived by her children, Tyson Wessels of Sioux Falls, SD, Tanya Wessels of Maple Grove; three sisters, Corinne Talley of Owatonna, Renee Buker of Waseca, Rochelle (Cordell) DeBoer of Rock Rapids, IA; aunts, Shirley Miller of St. Peter, Carollea Gilomen of Waterville; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Darlene Hoban; and aunt, Amy Clark.

A private celebration of life will be held Friday, August 4 starting at 1 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Waterville. There will be a small service and fellowship.
